The Spirit Percussion Mission

Jim LoPresti has been a musician since he was 8 years old starting with the accordion and then ultimately fully embracing the world of percussion. Over the years he has collected many different percussion instruments from several cultures and in the winter of 2017 he stumbled upon the magical instrument of the handpan. While searching the internet and educating himself about this unique instrument he discovered steel tongue drums crafted in Ukraine. He began collecting, performing with and recording these drums. As a sound bath practitioner, these drums are an integral part of the instruments he uses during a session.

Jim LoPresti has established a friendship and direct connection with Max Plakhtin, craftsman of the steel tongue drums and though the war wages on they have set out to preserve this instrument.

Spirit Percussion's mission is to import the drums here to the US as a means of sustainability for both this incredible instrument and the artisans who create them.

The conflict in Ukraine has made importing difficult and as it stands the effort to bring tongue drums here is on hold for now.

A portion of proceeds from sales continue to go to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
